We get the job done
Transcription Specialist (Legal, Business & Entertainment)
About the Role
We’re seeking a meticulous and experienced Transcription Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will transform a wide variety of audio and video recordings into accurate, well-formatted written documents. You’ll handle everything from depositions and court proceedings to corporate meetings, webinars, podcasts, and film or TV dialogue. Your work will serve as the critical reference point for attorneys, business leaders, content creators, and entertainment professionals who rely on precise transcripts to inform their decisions, publications, and productions.
Key Responsibilities
-
Legal Transcription: Listen to and transcribe hearings, depositions, client interviews, and case notes with verbatim accuracy, including speaker identification, timestamps, and legal terminology. Ensure confidentiality and adhere to all court-mandated formatting requirements.
-
Business Transcription: Convert board meetings, conference calls, training sessions, investor presentations, and executive interviews into clear, concise text. Highlight action items, decisions, and strategic points to support corporate record-keeping and internal communications.
-
Entertainment Transcription: Produce high-quality transcripts of podcasts, film and television scripts, interviews with talent, focus groups, and voice-over recordings. Include scene descriptions, speaker cues, and nonverbal sounds when relevant to assist writers, producers, and post-production editors.
-
Quality Assurance: Review and proofread your own work to catch homonyms, misheard words, and formatting errors. Use style guides (e.g., AP, Chicago, or client-specific) and specialized glossaries for industry-specific jargon.
-
Research & Verification: When needed, conduct quick research to confirm proper names, technical terms, and acronyms. Flag any inaudible or unclear sections and collaborate with project managers or clients to clarify content.
-
Time Management: Balance multiple assignments with varying lengths and deadlines. Estimate turnaround times accurately and consistently meet or exceed delivery commitments.
-
Confidentiality & Security: Maintain strict confidentiality and secure handling of all transcription materials in compliance with HIPAA (for medical/legal), NDAs, and other privacy standards.
Qualifications
-
Proven experience (2+ years) in transcription, with a portfolio or references demonstrating legal, corporate, and/or entertainment projects.
-
Exceptional command of English grammar, punctuation, and style.
-
Fast and accurate typing skills (minimum 75 WPM) with strong listening ability in diverse audio environments.
-
Familiarity with transcription software (e.g., Express Scribe, Otter.ai) and proficiency in Word, Google Docs, or comparable tools.
-
Ability to learn and adapt to new terminology quickly, with keen attention to detail.
-
Strong research skills for verifying terminology and names.
-
High level of professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
